Withdrawal of recommendation to suspend trade with Panama

In Notification to the Parties No. 2004/024 of 30 April 2004, the Secretariat advised Parties that, pursuant to Decision 12.83, the Conference of the Parties recommended that, from that date, all Parties should refuse any import from and export or re-export to Panama of CITES specimens until further notice.

On 19 May 2004, Panama enacted Ministerial Resolution N° AG-0172-2004 regarding endangered species of fauna and flora and other provisions. The Secretariat received a copy of the regulations the same day and has determined that Panama has shown good progress in the adoption of legislation for implementing the Convention, thereby satisfying the conditions agreed by the Standing Committee at its 50th meeting (Geneva, March 2004).

Accordingly, the recommendation to suspend trade with Panama contained in Notification to the Parties No. 2004/024 is withdrawn from 24 May 2004.
