World cyclist visits the Secretariat

On 29 July 2008 members of the CITES Secretariat welcomed an unusual visitor to their office. Furtemba Sherpa from Nepal is engaged in cycling around the world with the aim of promoting world peace and raising awareness of the need for environmental protection. Furtemba began his journey in 2003 and has visited 35 countries so far. His target is to visit 150 countries and he is ready to continue cycling until 2020 in order to achieve his goal.

Secretariat staff were delighted to have the opportunity to congratulate Furtemba on his progress so far and to wish him well for the future. He was presented with a certificate of appreciation in recognition of his efforts.
