No. 732 Lausanne, 1 March 1993 CONCERNING: Control of Operations Breeding Appendix-I Species in Captivity (continuation) 1.This Notification is a continuation of Notification to the Parties No. 719 of 21 December 1992. The attached information should be included in the Register of Operations which Breed Specimens of Species Included in Appendix I in Captivity for Commercial Purposes, attached to Notification to the Parties No. 568 of 31 January 1990 and amended subsequently. 2.The operation from the Philippines is the first one to be registered under Resolution Conf. 8.15 adopted at the eighth meeting of the Conference of the Parties (Kyoto, 1992). Therefore, the Secretariat must inform the Parties that it has followed the procedure described in Annex 3 to that Resolution, as it is coherent and logical, instead of that described in paragraphs f), g) and h) of the main Resolution, as these paragraphs contradict each other and Annex 3. In addition, the Secretariat would like to indicate that this operation is supported by the Chairman and other members of the IUCN/SSC Crocodile Specialist Group. 3.As the population of South Africa of Crocodylus niloticus is listed in Appendix II, the South African operations do not need to be registered. However, in order to follow the practice described in paragraph 6 of Notification to the Parties No. 568 of 31 January 1990, the Secretariat is maintaining in the Register the operations of Parties whose populations of the species concerned were in Appendix I but were transferred to Appendix II subject to export quotas. This is the case for South Africa with regard to Crocodylus niloticus. Therefore, a new South African operation is hereby added to the Register. 4.Also to follow the procedure described in paragraph 6 of Notification to the Parties No. 568 of 31 January 1990, the two crocodile farms registered for Kenya (Mamba Village Ž Kenya Crocodile Farm Ltd and Baobab Farm Ltd) have been deleted from the Register as the Kenyan population of the Nile crocodile (Crocodylus niloticus) is now listed in Appendix II under a ranching scheme. Register of Operations which Breed Specimens of Species Included in Appendix I in Captivity for Commercial Purposes (continuation) Notes: 1. Operations listed in this Register may be entitled to the exemption provided by Article VII, paragraph 4, of the Convention. 2. Parties are invited to reject any document granted under Article VII, paragraph 4, of the Convention, if the specimens concerned do not originate from an operation listed in this Register and from a species which has been declared as bred in captivity by the registered operation concerned.
