Notification to the Parties

No. 743 Lausanne, 7 May 1993

CONCERNING:

KENYA

Trade Parts and Derivatives of Aloe

1. The Management Authority of Kenya has informed the Secretariat that all species of Aloe are strictly protected in Kenya by presidential decree. Recently, the Kenyan authorities have discovered that a number of shipments of Aloe extracts have illegally left Kenya, and have been accepted for import by a number of countries.

2. The Management Authority of Kenya and the Secretariat urge all Parties to CITES not to accept any shipments of Aloe parts and derivatives originating in Kenya, unless they are accompanied by the appropriate CITES documentation.

3. The Secretariat strongly recommends that any CITES document issued or allegedly issued by Kenya for the export of Aloe parts and derivatives be communicated for authentication to the Management Authority of that country, direct or via the Secretariat, before being accepted.
