No. 847 Geneva, 18 April 1995 CONCERNING: Implementation of Resolution Conf. 9.11 Disposal of Confiscated Live Animals of Species Included in the Ap pendices 1.In Resolution Conf. 9.11, paragraph c), the Conference of the Parties recommends that the CITES Secretariat be informed about any decision taken on the disposal of confiscated live animals of species that are either in Appendix I or, if in Appendix II or III, involve commercial quantities. 2.The Conference of the Parties also urges Management Authorities, in consultation with Scientific Authorities and other bodies concerned, to develop action plans to deal with seized and confiscated live animals consistent with the guidelines set out in Annex 2 of that Resolution. 3.Paragraph 4. of Annex 2 states that the action plan should identify which authority in the country of origin listed in the CITES Directory should be contacted in the event that live animals are seized and that this authority should be annotated. 4.Paragraph 9. of Annex 2 states that Parties should submit to the Secretariat a list of facilities and programmes they have approved within their countries that have agreed to provide adequate care and that are willing to accept confiscated live animals of particular taxa. 5.Consequently the Parties are requested to send the information specified under items 3. and 4. of this Notification to the CITES Secretariat as soon as possible, and to keep it informed of the cases referred to under item 1.
