Notification to the Parties
No. 850 Geneva, 18 April 1995
1. All data from the annual reports of the Parties on trade in CITES specimens are computerized and stored in the CITES database. This is maintained by the Wildlife Trade Monitoring Unit of the World Conservation Monitoring Centre (WCMC), Cambridge, UK, under consultancy contract with the CITES Secretariat.
2. During the process of entering the data into the computer database, WCMC often notices discrepancies or finds that some of the information in the annual reports is unclear. To enable the problems identified by WCMC to be solved quickly and efficiently, the Secretariat has suggested that, where possible, WCMC should make direct contact with the Management Authority of the Party concerned.
3. The Secretariat would very much appreciate the co-operation of the Parties in responding quickly to requests from WCMC for clarification of information in the annual reports.
