No. 852 Geneva, 18 April 1995 CONCERNING: IATA Live Animals Regulations 1.IATA has published the 21st edition of its Live Animals Regulations. They entered into effect on 1 October 1994. 2.This edition includes the CITES appendices as they were before the ninth meeting of the Conference of the Parties, and updated State regulations and rules relevant to each airline, but has a completely changed numbering system for the container requirements (although the contents of these container requirements have only minor changes). Changes to other chapters are minor. 3.The Secretariat and the Chairman of the former Working Group on Transport of Live Specimens agreed in September 1994 that this edition, like the previous ones, is deemed to meet the CITES Guidelines in respect of air transport. Considering that the 21st edition is not very different from the 20th edition, they agreed also that the latter remains acceptable, as far as CITES is concerned, until the entry into force of the 22nd edition (1 October 1995). 4.Thanks to an agreement with IATA, the Secretariat is in a position to provide copies of the 21st edition (in English, French or Spanish) at a special price of CHF 90 for Management Authorities. Anybody else may purchase it from the CITES Secretariat for CHF 110. The Secretariat strongly recommends that Parties acquire the necessary number of copies to provide to their border posts so that inspectors will be in a position to check the validity of any export document that carries, in accordance with Resolution Conf. 9.3, the statement that it is only valid if the conditions of transport are in accordance with the IATA Live Animals Regulations. 5.This Notification replaces Notification to the Parties No. 765 of 31 August 1993.
