No. 858 Geneva, 18 April 1995 CONCERNING: CITES Guide to Plants in Trade 1.The Secretariat has the pleasure to send to the Parties herewith one copy of the CITES Guide to Plants in Trade. 2.This Guide provides the user with a general indication of what types of plants are in trade and in which form they are traded. All the large groups covered by CITES are included and all the species included in the appendices are treated individually. The Guide does not included the changes in the appendices adopted at the ninth meeting of the Conference of the Parties. Although the Guide is not intended to be a comprehensive identification manual, it is hoped that it will frequently be used by Customs officers and others involved in the control of plant trade to decide whether or not the plants they are looking at are subject to CITES controls. 3.The CITES Secretariat would like to thank the Government of the United Kingdom for making it possible for this Guide to be produced and published, and the Government of Japan for its financial support to cover part of the costs of publication. 4.Additional copies can be ordered from the CITES Secretariat or the CITES Management Authority of the United Kingdom for the price of USD 51 (or GBP 33 or CHF 68) each, including postage.
