No. 906 Geneva, 28 February 1996 CONCERNING: Nationally Established Export Quotas for 1996 Provisional List 1.In accordance with paragraph l), under the second RECOMMENDS of Resolution Conf. 9.3, the Parties named in the table annexed to this Notification have communicated to the Secretariat the export quotas that they have established for the calendar year 1996 for specimens of species included in the CITES appendices, as indicated in the attached list. 2.The list also includes export quotas granted by the Conference of the Parties. 3.The Secretariat expects to receive information about quotas from Parties that were not able to submit this information within the deadline given in Notification to the Parties No. 888 and will issue revised 1996 export quotas in May 1996 at the latest. 4.Therefore, Parties that have not yet provided the Secretariat with details of the quotas that they have established for 1996 are encouraged to do so as soon as possible, but not later than 31 March 1996. 5.It is understood that the levels of the national quotas established represent the maximum number of live specimens that will be authorized for export or from which parts and derivatives may be exported during the calendar year in question, and that it is not obligatory for the quota for any species to be exhausted during that year. Parties are therefore requested to avoid granting export permits in any calendar year referring to an export quota from the previous year. 6.The Secretariat wishes to draw the attention of the Parties to paragraphs l) and m) under the second RECOMMENDS of Resolution Conf. 9.3. As the Secretariat is obliged to implement decisions of the Conference of the Parties, it will recommend to potential importing countries the rejection of export permits that do not, where appropriate, include the details referred to in these two paragraphs. 7.This Notification replaces Notification to the Parties No. 874. 1996 Export Quotas for Specimens of Species Included in the CITES Appendices Provisional List + means resulting from a recommendation of the Animals Committee * means granted by the Conference of the Parties **means information on export quotas for species not listed in the appendices is available from the Secretariat Country/Species App. Export Remarks Quota Benin Chamaeleo gracilis II 2 000 ranched specimens Chamaeleo senegalensis II 9 000 " Kinixys belliana II 2 000 " Kinixys homeana II 2 000 " Pandinus imperator II 20 000 " Pelusios niger III 2 000 " Python regius II 75 000 " Python sebae II 2 000 " Varanus exanthematicus II 10 000 " Varanus niloticus II 8 000 " Botswana Acinonyx jubatus* I 5 live & trophies Loxodonta africana I 80 animals (160 tusks) Panthera pardus* I 130 trophies & skins Cameroon Loxodonta africana I 80 animals (160 tusks) Psittacus erithacus+ II 12 000 Varanus niloticus+ II 70 000 skins only Central African Republic Panthera pardus* I 40 trophies & skins Chad Varanus niloticus+ II 80 000 skins Egypt + + see Notifications Nos. 662 & 707 Ethiopia Crocodylus niloticus II 8 600 ranched specimens Panthera pardus* I 500 export will be limited to 100 trophies and skins Ghana Geochelone sulcata II 1 000 ranched specimens Kinixys beliana II 140 Kinixys erosa II 120 Kinixys homeana II 340 Psittacus erithacus+ II 5 000 Python regius+ II 7 000 30 000 ranched specimens Python sebae+ II 360 1 000 ranched specimens 50 manufactured products equivalent to 50 full wild- taken skins Guinea Psittacus erithacus timneh+ II 450 Python sebae+ II 3 100 skins Kenya Panthera pardus* I 80 hunting banned Madagascar Agapornis canus+ II 3 500 Crocodylus niloticus* II 4 500 ranched specimens 200 wild-taken nuisance specimens Pachypodium brevicaule II 0 for mature plants Malawi Crocodylus niloticus II 200 wild-taken 3 000 ranched specimens Hippopotamus amphibius II 6 000 kg skins; 1.4.95 to 31.3.96 2 000 kg teeth; includes trophies Panthera pardus* I 50 trophies & skins Malaysia (Peninsular only) Indotestudo elongata II 1 000 Loriculus galgulus II 4 300 Manouria emys II 300 Psittacula longicauda II 1 600 Psittinus cyanurus II 2 300 Mali Varanus niloticus+ II 150 000 skins Mozambique** Amandava subflava III 9 000 syn.
