No. 922 Geneva, 20 June 1996 CONCERNING: IATA Live Animals Regulations 1.Resolution Conf. 9.23 recommends that, for as long as the Secretariat and the Standing Committee agree, the IATA Live Animals Regulations be deemed to meet the CITES Guidelines for Transport and Preparation for Shipment of Live Wild Animals and Plants with respect to air transport. 2.The Secretariat and the Standing Committee have agreed that the 22nd edition of the IATA Live Animals Regulations meets the CITES Guidelines with respect to air transport. They have also agreed that the 20th and 21st editions remain acceptable as far as the CITES Guidelines are concerned. Regarding the 20th edition, this agreement remains valid only until 1 October 1996. 3.Thanks to a donation by IATA, a copy of the 22nd edition of the IATA Live Animals Regulations is enclosed. Some copies of the 21st edition (in English, French and Spanish) are still available to the Parties free of charge from the Secretariat upon request. 4.The Secretariat urges the Parties to ensure that a copy of a valid edition of the IATA Live Animals Regulations is available at each border post authorized for export or import of CITES specimens. Copies may be purchased from IATA, 2000 Peel St., Montreal, Quebec, Canada H3A 2R4 [fax: (+1514) 844- 7711] and from national airlines, amongst other places. 5.The Secretariat takes this opportunity to remind the Parties that Resolution Conf. 9.23, paragraph e), recommends that the IATA Live Animals Regulations be incorporated into national legislation. The Secretariat would appreciate being informed whether this has been done and, if so, being provided with a copy of the relevant text. 6.The CITES Guidelines for Transport and Preparation for Shipment of Live Wild Animals and Plants are available from the Secretariat for CHF 15 plus postage. 7.This Notification replaces Notifications to the Parties Nos. 190 of 17 November 1981 and 852 of 18 April 1995.
