Notification to the Parties

CONCERNING:

European Union Regulations

1. New regulations have been adopted by the European Union to control the trade in specimens of CITES species and to harmonize the implementation of the Convention throughout the Member States of the European Union.

2. The regulations concerned are:

- Council Regulation (EC) No. 338/97 of 9 December 1996 on the protection of species of wild fauna and flora by regulating trade therein;

- Commission Regulation (EC) No. 938/97 of 26 May 1997 amending Council Regulation (EC) No.338/97 on the protection of species of wild fauna and flora by regulating trade therein; and

- Commission Regulation (EC) No. 939/97 of 26 May 1997 laying down detailed rules concerning the implementation of Council Regulation (EC) No. 338/97 on the protection of species of wild fauna and flora by regulating trade therein.

3. The European Commission has offered to send copies of these regulations to all CITES Parties and these accompany the present Notification, which is kindly being dispatched by the Commission.
