Notification to the Parties

CONCERNING:

Stricter domestic measures

1. Decision 10.103 directs the Secretariat to conduct a survey of the stricter domestic measures already adopted by the Parties. This subject was discussed at the 41st meeting of the Standing Committee (Geneva, February 1999) when the Secretariat was directed to seek assistance in conducting the study.

2. The Secretariat has been unable to obtain such assistance and now seeks the co-operation of the Parties to comply with this decision.

3. Parties are requested to submit to the Secretariat, by 18 September 1999, details of all measures adopted in accordance with Article XIV, paragraph 1, of the Convention, namely:

"1. The provisions of the present Convention shall in no way affect the right of Parties to adopt:

   
 

(a) stricter domestic measures regarding the conditions for trade, taking, possession or transport of specimens of species included in Appendices I, II and III, or the complete prohibition thereof; or

   
 

(b) domestic measures restricting or prohibiting trade, taking, possession or transport of species not included in Appendix I, II or III."
