Notification to the Parties
No. 1999/71 Geneva, 30 September 1999
Workshop on enforcement of and compliance with multilateral agreements
1. From 12 to 14 July 1999, UNEP convened a workshop on environmental crime, principally to address issues related to the enforcement of and compliance with CITES, the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer and the Basel Convention on the Control of Transboundary Movements of Hazardous Wastes and Their Disposal.
2. The CITES Secretariat acted as a facilitator at the workshop, which brought together 48 experts from around the world to discuss the development of networks to combat environmental crime and share information on patterns and quantities of illegal trade.
3. A report of the workshop, 66 pages long, is now available but in English only. The Secretariat understands that a French language version may become available.
4. Parties that wish to obtain a copy are invited to contact the Secretariat. The report can be provided in printed form or via email.
