Notification to the Parties

No. 1999/78 Geneva, 5 November 1999

CONCERNING:

GUYANA

Withdrawal of the recommendation to suspend trade

1. By Notification to the Parties No. 1999/65, issued on 30 September 1999, the Secretariat informed the Parties that, pursuant to Decision 10.18, the Conference of the Parties recommended that, from that date, all Parties should refuse any import from and export or re-export to Guyana of CITES specimens, until further notice.

2. On 4 October 1999, Guyana provided to the Secretariat a copy of Regulations made under the Environmental Protection Act 1996, cited as "Species Protection Regulations, 1999", published in Official Gazette No. 112/99, dated 29 September 1999.

3. The Species Protection Regulations, 1999 meet the conditions established by the Standing Committee at its 41st meeting, pursuant to Decisions of the Conference of the Parties 10.18, paragraph a), and 10.64, because they regulate import, export and re-export of live and dead animals and plants of all species listed in Appendices I, II and III of CITES as well as parts and derivatives thereof. These regulations also provide for the confiscation of CITES specimens that have been illegally traded.

4. Therefore, the Secretariat hereby informs the Parties that the recommendation expressed in Notification to the Parties No. 1999/65 is withdrawn with immediate effect.
