CONCERNING:
ICPO-Interpol report on trade in primates
1. In November 1997, the Interpol Wildlife Crime Working Group decided to instigate a study of the illegal trade in primates. The study was conducted by the Analytical Criminal Intelligence Unit and the Economic Crime Branch of the Interpol General Secretariat.
2. An analytical wildlife crime report, entitled ‘Project Primates’, has now been produced that provides an insight into the nature and scope of illegal trade in primates and wildlife crime in general, in order to aid the establishment of enforcement priorities and policies.
3. The CITES Secretariat can make copies of the report available on request from CITES Management Authorities. The report is available in English only.
The report is 44 pages long and the CITES Secretariat can supply it in an electronic version. A copy of the chapter containing recommendations is attached.
