Notification to the Parties

No. 2000/004 Geneva, 31 January 2000

CONCERNING:

Senegal

Withdrawal of the recommendation to suspend trade

1. By Notification to the Parties No. 1999/75, of 21 October 1999, the Secretariat informed the Parties that, pursuant to Decision 10.64, the Conference of the Parties recommended that, from that date, all Parties should refuse any import from and export or re-export to Senegal of CITES specimens of CITES-listed species, until further notice.

2. On 6 January 2000, Senegal provided to the Secretariat a copy of ministerial regulations cited as "Arrêté portant réglementation du commerce international des espèces de faune et de flore sauvages", adopted on 28 December 1999.

3. The ministerial regulations meet the conditions established by the Standing Committee at its 41st meeting, pursuant to Decision 10.18, paragraph a), and Decision 10.64, because they regulate import, export and re-export of live and dead animals and plants of all species listed in Appendices I, II and III of CITES as well as parts and derivatives thereof. These regulations also include penalties in case of violation of the Convention.

4. Therefore, the Secretariat hereby informs the Parties that the recommendation transmitted in Notification to the Parties No. 1999/75 is withdrawn with immediate effect.
