Notifications to the PartiesNo. 2000/043 Geneva, 31 July 2000
CONCERNING:
Control of operations that breed Appendix-I species in captivity for commercial purposes
(continuation)1. This Notification is an addendum to Notification to the Parties No. 2000/010 of 31 January 2000.
2. Through Notification to the Parties No. 2000/005 of 31 January 2000, the Secretariat informed the Parties of the application for registration of two captive-breeding operations in Singapore regarding species that were not yet included in the Secretariat's register, Cacatua moluccensis and Caloenas nicobarica. By the end of the 120-day period of consultation, 30 May 2000, no objections to this registration had been received by the Secretariat.
3. Through Notification to the Parties No. 2000/023 of 23 March 2000, the Secretariat informed the Parties of the application for registration of one captive-breeding operation in Singapore of a species that was not yet included in the Secretariat's register, Eos histrio. By the end of the 120-day period of consultation, 21 July 2000, no objections to this registration had been received by the Secretariat.
4. Unfortunately, information regarding an additional species (Falco rusticolus) bred by Mr Michael Purschwitz, Canada (registration No. A-CA-508), was omitted from the recapitulation communicated in Notification to the Parties No. 2000/010 of 31 January 2000.
5. The attached information concerning operations in Canada, Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore has been included in the Register of operations that breed specimens of species included in Appendix I in captivity for commercial purposes.
6. The Management Authority of Thailand has indicated that all operations in Thailand that have been registered (registration Nos. A-TH-501 to A-TH-512) are also permitted to export dried meat, fresh meat, skulls, blood, teeth, bones and eggs.
7. At its 11th meeting, the Conference of the Parties adopted Resolution Conf. 11.14, Guidelines for a procedure to register and monitor operations that breed Appendix-I animal species for commercial purposes, to replace the current Resolution Conf. 8.15 (Rev.). However, the list of species to which this new registration system should apply has still to be established by the Animals Committee and approved by the Standing Committee. The provisions of Resolution Conf. 8.15 (Rev.) remain in effect until the list of species has been approved and sent to the Parties.
