CONCERNING:
Clarification of annotation –110 to Appendices I and II
1. In Appendices I and II of the Convention, the annotation –110 is used for Rhea pennata (Darwin’s rhea) and for Caiman latirostris (broad-nosed caiman), both species included in Appendix I.
2. The explanation of annotation –110 given in the Interpretation section of Appendices I and II is "Population of Rhea pennata pennata of Argentina". This text is correct with regard to Rhea pennata; i.e. the only population of this species that is excluded from Appendix I is the Argentine population of the subspecies Rhea pennata pennata, which is included in Appendix II. However, it is clearly not relevant to Caiman latirostris, a mistake having regrettably been introduced during an earlier correction to this annotation.
3. The correct explanation of the annotation for Caiman latirostris included in Appendix I is "Population of Argentina". That is to say, the only population of this species excluded from Appendix I is the Argentine population, which is included in Appendix II.
4. The Secretariat will make the necessary amendment to the annotations used for Rhea pennata and Caiman latirostris on the next occasion when an amendment to Appendices I and II is adopted. This Notification is therefore being circulated in the meantime in case of any misunderstanding.
