Notification to the Parties

CONCERNING:

Proposals to amend Appendices I and II

Consultation with range States

1. In Resolution Conf. 8.21, the Conference of the Parties recommends that Parties that intend to submit proposals for amendment of Appendix I or II, and that do not intend to consult the range States, should submit them at least 330 days in advance of the next scheduled meeting of the Conference, for circulation to all Parties by the Secretariat. The deadline was therefore 8 December 2001 in the case of proposals to be considered at the 12th meeting of the Conference of the Parties.

2. By 8 December 2001, the Secretariat had received from Switzerland the following proposals for circulation:

a) Deletion from Appendix II of Cactaceae, subfamily Opuntioideae (all species)

b) Deletion from Appendix II of leaf-bearing cacti (Cactaceae): subfamily Pereskioideae (all species), the genus Pereskiopsis (all species) and the genus Quiabentia (all species).

3. Copies of these proposals ()are attached and, in accordance with Resolution Conf. 8.21, interested Parties are invited to send their comments to the proponent State in order to allow it to submit revised proposals at least 150 days before the 12th meeting of the Conference of the Parties (i.e. by 6 June 2002). Comments should be sent directly to the Management Authority of Switzerland at the following address:
