No. 2002/024
Geneva, 9 April 2002

Notification to the Parties

CONCERNING:

Revision of existing Resolutions

1. At the 46th meeting of the Standing Committee (Geneva, 12-15 March 2002), the Secretariat presented its plans for preparing proposals to revise a number of existing Resolutions (see document SC46 Doc. 10).

2. The Standing Committee agreed that the Secretariat should proceed with its review of Resolutions Conf. 5.11, Conf. 8.16, Conf. 9.9, Conf. 9.21 and Conf. 10.2 (Rev.), in consultation with the Parties that had commented on these Resolutions in response to Notification to the Parties No. 2001/058 of 10 August 2001.

3. With a view to simplifying the procedures for the implementation of the Convention (as required by the Strategic Vision through 2005) and in order to focus resources on priority conservation issues, the Secretariat intends to propose the revision or repeal of 23 other existing Resolutions. These are listed in the Annex to this Notification. The Secretariat has also indicated to the Standing Committee its intention to prepare proposals to put into Resolutions the texts of Decisions that are not time-limited. With regard to these intentions, the Standing Committee requested the Secretariat to inform it of the Resolutions for which it believes that amendments are required as a priority before preparing documents for CoP12.

4. In order to help in deciding the priorities, the Secretariat, at the request of the Standing Committee, requests all Parties to inform it, as soon as possible, of their views on Resolutions that should be revised as a priority. The Parties are also urged to inform the Secretariat if they are considering the submission of proposals to amend existing Resolutions, for consideration at the 12th meeting of the Conference of the Parties.
