Geneva, 9 April 2002

CONCERNING:
Use of the Internet by Parties
1. Besides the regular despatch of documents, the Secretariat is using its website as a major means to communicate with Parties, the CITES community in general, and to reach as wide an audience as possible.
2. At its 46th meeting (Geneva, March 2002), the Standing Committee requested the Secretariat conduct a survey of all Parties to determine how many were unable to use the Internet as a reliable means of communication.
3. The Secretariat would therefore like to request that Parties that have poor or no access to the Internet, and therefore to the Secretariat’s website, make themselves known in order to help it orient the development of its communication policy. These Parties are also requested to indicate whether they expect to be able to use the Internet within one to two years.
