Notification to the Parties

CONCERNING:

Trade in specimens of Huso huso from the Caspian Sea

1. In Notification to the Parties No. 2002/059 of 22 October 2002, the Secretariat recommended that all Parties refuse to accept any export permit for specimens of Huso huso issued by Azerbaijan, the Islamic Republic of Iran, Kazakhstan, the Russian Federation or Turkmenistan after 22 October 2002.

2. During the 12th meeting of the Conference of the Parties (Santiago, Chile), the Secretariat met with representatives of the littoral States of the Caspian and was supplied with new information that enabled it to be satisfied that the coordinated intergovernmental approach, required in Decision 11.58, has been re-established.

3. Consequently, the recommendation that all Parties refuse to accept any export permit for specimens of Huso huso that is issued by Azerbaijan, the Islamic Republic of Iran, Kazakhstan, the Russian Federation or Turkmenistan is withdrawn with immediate effect.

4. This Notification replaces Notification to the Parties No. 2002/059 of 22 October 2002.
