Notification to the Parties
CONCERNING:
FIJI
Conditions for resumption of trade in specimens of CITES-listed
coral species
- In Notification to the Parties No. 2002/066 of 19 December 2002, the Secretariat
informed Parties that the recommendation to suspend trade with Fiji contained
in Notification to the Parties No. 2002/003 was temporarily withdrawn with
immediate effect. The Secretariat was advised that Fiji’s Parliament enacted
national legislation for the implementation of CITES on 6 December 2002.
- With regard to any resumption of coral trade with Fiji, however, the Secretariat
wishes to provide some additional clarification.
- Parties should not accept any export permits for specimens of CITES-listed
coral species from Fiji until the Secretariat has verified the voluntarily
reduced quantities of coral that Fiji plans to trade in 2003 and has published
these quotas on the CITES website.
