Notification to the Parties

CONCERNING:

CITES Strategic Vision and Action Plan

1. The Secretariat wishes to remind Parties that the period covered by the Strategic Vision through 2005 and the Action Plan, adopted at the 11th meeting of the Conference of the Parties (CoP11, Gigiri, 2000), will end between its 13th and 14th meetings, scheduled for 2004 and 2007 respectively. A new Strategic Vision and Action Plan should therefore be adopted at CoP13 to extend until 2010.

2. This subject will be discussed at the 50th meeting of the Standing Committee (scheduled for 15 to 19 March 2004). In order to allow time for the preparation of a document for discussion at that meeting, Parties are invited to submit to the Secretariat suggestions regarding the contents of a new Strategic Vision and Action Plan or modifications to the existing documents by 31 October 2003.
