Call for nominations open for the 2020 Asia Environmental Enforcement Awards

 

Nominations are now open for the 2020 Asia Environmental Enforcement Awards.

Held for the fifth time, these Awards celebrate the work of individuals and/or government organizations or teams that have demonstrated excellence and outstanding leaderships in enforcement of national laws to combat transboundary environmental crime.

The scope of the crimes considered in these awards is wide and includes wildlife crime or illegal trade in chemicals or waste, such as plastic, among others.

The 2020 Awards will be given to recipients who have stood out in one ore more of these categories:

  • Collaboration
  • Impact
  • Innovation
  • Integrity
  • Gender leadership

There will also be a specific category rewarding outstanding efforts towards Africa-Asia cooperation in the area of illegal wildlife trade.

The 2020 Awards will be given by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), the Secretariat of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES), the World Customs Organization (WCO) and the International Criminal Police Organization (INTERPOL).

The separate category on Africa-Asia cooperation in the area of illegal trade in wildlife is sponsored by UNDP and the Global Environment Facility (GEF)-financed, World Bank-led Global Wildlife Program.

Any government official and/or institution or team working on fighting transboundary environmental crime in Asia or on fostering Africa-Asia cooperation in the area of illegal trade in wildlife for that category is eligible to be nominated. However, individuals or entities that are not formally affiliated with a government institution are not.

To nominate an individual, group or institution, you must fill the online nomination form. Originally open on until May 31, the period for nominations has been extended until July 31.
